The Genki Answer Key covers material in the textbooks and workbooks (volumes 1 and 2) and it is very helpful for students of Japanese, whether you're self-taught or taking classes.I'm personally taking classes. While I do all of my work first, I'm a self-corrector and need to correct early because the longer I wait for correction, the more likely I am to reinforce my misunderstanding. With the answer key, I can do all of my work first, then see if I did something wrong. If I did, I erase it, reread the textbook, and try again, building an attachment to the correct grammar, spelling, etc. While I wasn't a bad student before purchasing the answer key, the quick self-correction really did help in recall on future assignments and classwork; it also helped me in understanding materials we'd be discussing in class, by seeing more examples before class. Sometimes, you just need it spelled out for you with no explanations - the spelling out and interpretation of the structure are the explanations.I want to emphasis to my fellow students, though, to not just use this to get all the correct answers for the homework. You can't use the book on quizzes, exams, or other class participation projects. However, it is an excellent resource if you're not doing so well, need a little extra reinforcement, or intend to study Japanese for the long run. The Japan Times, publisher of Genki, is one of the few publishers who provides an answer key, as their books are intended for students and self-learners.In short: buy it. I am studying two other languages in addition to Japanese. The Japan Times and authors of Genki want you to succeed.
This book is very very useful. It helps if you at least are familiar with the KANJI at the back of the book because the answers are heavy on using kanji. however the furigana is by the kanji so you can understand how to pronounce the words. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IF THIS BOOK COVERS YOUR GENKI BOOK, THIS BOOK COVERS:Genki I 2nd edition textbook :The orange bookGenki I 2nd edition workbookGenki II 2nd edition textbookGenki II 2nd edition textbookTo understand where the answer section is for your book, you have to be able to read A LITTLE Katakana because the book is purely in Japanese. It's not hard to get a grasp of how the book is broken down. The first section is the Genki I textbook, then Genki I WB, then Genki II textbook and Genki II wb.Also be weary, like I said before, you have to be familiar with your kanji. The book has mistakes on some kanji. For example, the strokes on the kanji for to speak 話　is not correct. If you copy that kanji to (cheat), it's almost a dead giveaway if your teacher grades harshly on kanji. The first line on 話 is supposed to be a diagonal line instead of a horizontal line. Well it's technically not a mistake, it's just how the typed version of the kanji looks, but you still need to be able to differentiate between the two.THIS BOOK IS NOT A TEACHER'S REFERENCE MANUAL. IT WILL NOT HAVE ALL THE POWERPOINTS AND EXPLAINATIONS THAT COME WITH THE BOOK. THIS IS JUST AN 80PG BOOK OF PURE ANSWERS. THE TEACHER'S BOOK COSTS LIKE $120-$200 AND IS BLUE (I THINK. IT'S ON AMAZON)
This is just the answers for all the questions in the textbook and workbook.YES, this answer key is good for Textbooks 1 &2 AND Workbooks 1 &2. Pic shows highlighted edge, the yellow areas are the textbooks, and the colored areas are the workbooks.It was not too hard to figure out because it uses page numbers that match the books and numbered question answers.
I enjoy using Genki to study the Japanese language and decided to buy the answer key to feel confident in my answers. I use this with both Genki 1 (second edition) and Genki 1 workbook.Beware! This answer key is ONLY IN JAPANESE; therefore, my heart almost stopped when I opened this book expecting to see "Answer...". It took time for me to search for the section that contained the answers to questions in the workbook vs. textbook. Once your able to find the specific section you are working on, it's fairly easy to annotate what page you need to reference. What's great about this book is that it contains answers to the ENTIRE Genki series (meaning answers to Genki 1&2 workbook and textbook).As stated earlier, if the navigation was just a little bit easier to manage, it would easily have gained 5 stars.
If you are trying to learn Japanese by using the Genki textbooks and workbooks. This is the perfect tool to find the answers. Granted that you have to at least be able to read hiragana and katakana because this book is completely in Japanese.
At first, I was not interested in buying the answer key until I found out it was not only for both workbooks but also the 2 textbooks as well. This is really going to be helpful for reviewing the material. Also, the textbooks come with a cd, and they give the answers to the practice questions. At least for me, sometimes the dialogue is too fast for me to keep up, and I can't understand what they are saying. However, this will answer key will help since it has a transcript. The textbook is mostly in Japanese though. Thankfully I am very familiar with hiragana and katakana. There is Kanji, but they have the hiragana/katakana equivalent right below the character. I definitely recommend this.
For those that are buying this to correct your own work in the Genki textbooks and workbooks:This is great it has answers for all four books and even has examples of acceptable work for the exercises that ask the reader to talk about themselves. However it is entirely in Japanese. So it will take a little work to figure out what answers are meant for which exercise. It also, doesn't break up the books. All the grammar answers for every chapter from the two books combined will be in one section, while the Read/Writing exercises will be in a separate section, etc. These can be pretty easily deciphered if you have your text book next to you though.
